When Monitoring Makes Sense
- The roof is aging but not leaking, with no active water entry
- Granule loss is mild and even, without exposed mat
- You want to align the project with a future addition, siding job, or budget year
- A storm claim is pending and the insurer has not completed its inspection
Monitoring is a real recommendation, not a stall. We document the condition with photos so next year's comparison is meaningful.
When Replacement Is the Right Call
- Multiple leaks in different areas, or leaks that return after repair
- Widespread granule loss, curling, cracking, or brittle shingles that break when lifted
- Soft or spongy decking underfoot
- Two or more existing layers, which limits any repair and adds weight
- Chronic ice damming tied to a roof assembly that needs to be rebuilt correctly
- Storm damage across enough of the roof that patching would be visibly mismatched
A Note on Repair Availability
For the remainder of 2026, routine roof and leak repair service is limited to roughly a 20-mile radius around Tomahawk, plus Minocqua and Rhinelander.
