Eagle River is one of the snowiest corners of Wisconsin, and the snow that lands here tends to stay. On a north slope shaded by white pine, a December snowfall can still be sitting there in April, compressing into a dense layer that holds meltwater against the shingles every time the sun works on the south side of the ridge.
